Levellers Day 2024 - Sea Green Singers and Didcot Red Notes

Communal signing in Burford Churchyard to commemorate Cornet Thompson, Corporal Perkins and Private Church who were executed in Burford Churchyard in 1649.

Great Western Solidarity is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

The Levellers were a radical political group during the English Civil Wars in the seventeenth century. Every year in Burford a celebration and commemoration is held on the weekend closest to the anniversary of the execution of three of their number.

The Sea Green Singers and Didcot Red Notes choirs jointly perform in the churchyard to start the days events.

Welcome to the first post on Great Western Solidarity!

The plan is to explore Solidarity - ordinary people standing together to achieve positive change in society: Demonstrations, Civic Events, and Opinion from a left of centre political outlook. Don’t be surprised to find posts that show a wide range of angles - the main criteria is that I find a subject interesting or important.

Thank you for reading Great Western Solidarity. This post is public so feel free to share it.
